Refilling Propane Tanks!
/Re-Filling propane tanks!
Propane is the what we use to do all of our cooking. A worry that I had was how we were going to fill the tanks while in different countries was a worry of mine. I have read online from blogs and forums was that many people had filled Swedish propane bottles in Portugal and Spain. Looking at when these blogs and posts in the forums were written, I was a little hesitant to think that filling the tanks would be a simple task.
What is the problem some of you not from the EU maybe thinking. The problem is that every EU country has their own tank system, tank valves and ways of filling the tanks. The valves on a Swedish tank or not the same as on a Danish, Norwegian, or Spanish tank, for example. Most all countries have an exchange system where you give them an empty bottle and you get a full one in return. But they only do that with their own tanks. They refuse to do anything with any foreign tanks. There are also hardly any places that will refill the bottle on the spot.
Another reason why I was thinking that refilling the tanks would not be that easy is that in all the forums and blogs I read most said that they were able to refill their tanks in certain cities but did not give an exact location or place where they refilled them. They would say something like "We refilled our tanks in Lagos". No other info given. This was a little frustrating. With this post, I will give the exact location and hopefully help someone else to get their tanks filled.
The place that filled our bottles is called GPL and it is located in the town of Boliqueime, Portugal. The plus code address is 4RHR+79 Boliqueime, Portugal. It is about 60km from Lagos Marina where we stayed for a week. The GPL place refilled our Swedish propane tanks and they also refilled our friends American propane tank as well. They have all adapters so they are able to refill all European tanks along with American tanks. Below are some pics of the place.
